Friday Thoughts
By jeni | August 22, 2008
Okay people, bullet point style because I’m too lazy/annoyed to make a really coherent post.Â
- Got my hair cut and highlighted today. Ladies, you know that beautiful, bouncy, swingy happy feeling you get when you first leave the salon and your hair is beautiful and you know you’ll never get it to look that way again but you don’t care because at least it looks that way now and “Damn I look good” and all that? I had that feeling today. For about 5 minutes. Because then I went outside, and it was pouring rain, and the humidity was one million percent, and my hair was instantly flat and shaggy and back to crap. Great. I don’t even have a picture of it looking good. Went a little darker with the highlights than I normally do – I think the Indian lady who did my hair was in shock at how blonde I was. It fits for fall right? Even though there are no season here. But that’s another complaint for another day.Â
- Shark’s fin soup is evil and I can’t believe they still serve it so many places here. Now I know I shouldn’t be getting on my soapbox about this and the last thing I want is an argument about eating meat, so don’t even go there, but do you know how they make this? They basically just pull a shark out of the water, cut off his fins, and then throw him back in the ocean to die since he can’t swim anymore. Sad.Â
- Speaking of sharks, John and I got into one of our classic “disagreements” (read: childish bickering) in Bintan. He said this really tall tree was really the coolest living thing in the world. I said a shark was, because a shark is the most highly evolved thing on the planet. It’s got amazing power and speed and it’s just evolved to do exactly what it needs. Besides, you can just cut a tree down right? Well he countered, you can just pull a shark out of the water and cut it’s fins off (or maybe something less savage, but you get the idea). And on and on and on we went. There was no resolution, but I maintain that a shark is the coolest living thing on the planet. What is cooler than a shark? A platypus maybe. But that’s it.Â
- I’ve been going to yoga right? Well John has taken up yoga. Here he is practicing his child’s pose.
- I’m very proud of him for taking action to do something good for his health and combat the stress of work, because he is working ALL. THE. TIME. right now. Hence my lonesome blathering.
- After spending 3.5 hours at the salon today, I needed a little snack, so I headed straight over to my new fave – Jollibean. What’s Jollibean? It’s basically just a little stand in the mall that sells soy milk. It’s awesome. Have a nice, healthy, protein-packed snack. Oh and add a little sugar with a coconut pancake just for good measure. You can also add those little black jelly things they put in bubble tea and what not but those are sickening so I just have mine plain. This will have to count for our food of the week. I know we have been slack on that but dumplings and dim sum are coming soon, I promise! Anyway, how cool is it that they just sell soy milk at the mall? Love it.Â

- It appears the bullet above in front of the picture will not go away. That is bothering me.Â
- If you are going to Cambodia do not try to get an eVisa. There are a lot of problems with the system and it is a total nightmare. Get a Visa on Arrival. We got ours figured out but it was not fun.Â
- I miss Target. I never knew how much I loved it until it was gone. *Sob*
- If you are in Denver and see any celebs at the DNC I want to know about it immediately.Â
- I learned how to say Excuse Me in Mandarin. No clue how to write it though.Â
- My favorite commercial “Call KFC Delivery, Six Triple Two Six Triple One” (in the most awesome jingle singsong ever) seems to have gone off the air. I’m sad.Â
- This post is going downhill fast so I’m signing off. Laters y’all.Â

One your best posts. Some of my favorites include: lonesome blather, the bullet that won’t go away (that kind of thing can make a person go mad, not even kidding), and that Of Course you think those gelatin balls are sickening. I love Michael Phelps.

– My hair does that all the time! So annoying.
– I’ve seen John sleep that way. Are you sure he wasn’t just passed out?
– They’re tapioca balls. They are gross.
– They’ve barricaded Speer and there are a lot more police officers around, but no celeb sightings yet.
– Katy loves Michael Phelps.

You’re right, they are called tapoica balls. But you’re wrong because they are exotically delicious. And I think America loves Michael Phelps! USA USA USA!
