Happy 4th!
By jeni | July 4, 2008
Seems like we’re always out of town on the 4th, and this year of course is no exception. We’re going to celebrate by catching some good ol’ American cinema! Hope you all have a good one!
EDIT by John: This movie was *horrible*. Blech.

Singapore! For reals y’all
By jeni | July 3, 2008
We are here! Finally. Actually once we got on the Singapore Airlines flight to Seoul, it was pretty smooth sailing. Or flying. Or whatever. Singapore Airlines is awesome. The seats were incredible, so big and roomy (we were lucky and got to sit Business Class). They even fold all the way down into a bed! The flight to Seoul was about 12 hours, so we both watched movies, slept, had lunch and a Tiger Beer and even got to brush our teeth. All in all a nice flight. Once we arrived in Seoul we had to deplane and go through security again, but then we got right back on to our same seats. The flight to Singapore was another six hours, but honestly that seemed like a breeze compared to the longer flight.

Â
We finally arrived in Singapore at around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning (local time), or about 30 hours after we had left the house in Denver. Whew! We were exhausted, but luckily immigration and customs were a breeze – (I was a little nervous about the gum in my purse, because I’m wimp, but nobody said a thing), and our ride was waiting to whisk us to our new apartment.Â
Treetops is actually more like a hotel than an apartment – it’s called a serviced apartment – but I’ll let John tell you guys all about that sometime. We fell into bed exhausted, but made ourselves get up only a few hours later to acclimate to the new time and figure out our new city. We trudged out to Orchard Road, and took it all in – the people, the heat, the smells, and the shopping! There is certainly a lot of it.
Â

We were both dripping sweat from the heat and humidity and exhausted after our day out on the town, but we had golf to play! We were to meet John’s colleagues, many in town from China, for a golf lesson at the Marina Bay golf course, so off we went.Â
The funniest part of golfing was figuring out what to wear, because the dress code was hardcore and 90% of our clothes were packed up and impossible to find. After turning our little room upside down in an effort to find long pants, collared shirts, belts and non-slip-on rubber-soled shoes, we were ready to go. The golf lesson was fun, and honestly, I’m pretty good. John – not so much. I’m sure he’d tell you differently, but he’s not here right now so you’ll just have to take my word for it.Â

By the time we made it home after dinner last night, we were exhausted and the jet lag was beginning to set in, so we were in bed safe and sound by 10 p.m. John went to the office this morning, and I’m wasting time on the Internet when I should be unpacking our things. There’s so much more to tell you, so we’ll be back soon!Â

Travel Itinerary Revisited
By John | July 1, 2008
Okay, this has been an extremely stressful morning. Our flight out of Denver heading to San Francisco was delayed due to the smoke in San Fran so we ended up landing at about 12:43 PM. Now, if you’ll recall our original itinerary that Jeni posted, that leaves us exactly 17 minutes to deplane, take the bus across the tarmac and get on our flight to Tokyo leaving at 1.
Well, since we were in first class we booked it off the plane, literally ran to the international terminal bus and were whisked over to gate 92 where we were greeted with this:
Yeah, that’s our flight to Tokyo leaving without us. Oh well. We were pretty frustrated that they didnt hold the flight even 10 minutes. Especially since there were 11 other people on the flight from Denver trying to get on that plane.
Whatever. Thanks to the United reps and to Doris at Singapore Airlines, we’re now comfortably awaiting our flight to Singapore departing at 3:45 PM. Not only that but we’re making a quick stop on our “non-stop” flight in Seoul, South Korea! And we’re flying on a brand new 777.

Eve of Leave
By jeni | June 29, 2008
Packing is complete – thank goodness for Amy and Dave. We could NOT have done it without your help. Now we’re just chilling, enjoying our last night in our little house for a while. We’ll leave you with a pic from Katy and Jason’s wedding (Michelle and Craig, so sorry we missed yours!). We’ll post as soon as we arrive and tell you all about the flights. Singapore here we come!

Travel Itinerary
By jeni | June 19, 2008
Monday, June 30, 2008 – we leave for Singapore at 10:10 a.m. And then we fly. And fly. And fly. Here’s our itinerary:
First, United Flight 415 from Denver to San Francisco. 2 hours and 40 min.Â
Then, United Flight 853 from SF to Tokyo. 10 hours and 55 min.Â
Finally United Flight 803 from Tokyo to Singapore. 7 hours and 5 min.Â
For a grand total of 20 hours and 40 min. in the air, not to mention time at airports. Wowzer. We’ll finally make it Singapore on Tuesday, July 1 at 11:55 p.m. Singapore time. That’s 14 hours ahead of Mountain time if you’re interested.Â
So that’s it – that’s our trip in a nutshell. More to come on where we’re going to live out there soon!Â
